This pre-established dignity can never be lost although it can be denied. We only come to know our nature and God slowly. 4. Achieving our nature is the goal of our freedom and our salvation. 5. The dignity of human nature contains these mutually determining moments: a) Our natural (personal) being which is: i) Spirit, always dependent on God, the total unity of reality; ii) Freedom; iii) Individual, unique, undeduced, immortal subject of an eternal destiny; iv) Communitybuilding: perfect to the extent we open ourselves in love to serve others; v) Incarnate and mundane: self-realization comes only in extending oneself in space and time.

Matt 16:18; 18:18 points to the distance that arises between the sinner and the church on account of sin—a moral not a juridical effect as is excommunication.
