Alonzo working as an operator for James Wong Howe; and Conrad Hall working for such luminaries as Ernest Haller, Robert Surtees, Ted McCord, Hal Mohr, and Burnett Guffeywho, in turn, earlier worked for Leon Shamroy who, as we have seen, apprenticed with Joseph Walker. The advent of television in the 1950s changed this apprenticeship system somewhat by providing an alternative field in which fledgling cinematographers could learn their craft.
